God Always Honors Our Choices
Whatever you choose, God always honors your choice. He may close a door, but if you choose to enter through a window, He will honor your choice and give you the fruits of that choice. Doubt me?
Remember enjoying that second piece of German Chocolate cake when you know your limit is only a sliver? You know you get sick when you eat too much chocolate. But it tastes so good … and you just want more. Nothing mystical. You just want more. All that gooeyness on top of chocolate delight waits for you. In no time your tummy later reminds you why so much richness at one time isn’t a good idea, and you’re sick for the rest of the day.
All choices are like that. We have free will. And consequences always wait for us. God is consistent.
In a week we will be asked to make a choice. Do you vote on what makes sense to you? Do you vote on what people tell you is right? Or out of pure frustration, do you choose to not vote at all? All choices. All bear consequences.
I am not going to try to influence your choice, but only your process. Seek wisdom before your choose.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 (NIV)
After you make your choice and the results are in, remember two things: God is bigger than the election and He is never surprised. If you are not happy with the results, thank God. If you are happy with the results, thank God. Remember, He honors your right to choose–he honors free will.
As Christians, we are just passing through. Be the source of light for others to influence their choice–for Christ. That’s the choice we need to be concerned about more than any other.

“Remember, He honors your right to choose–he honors free will.” Hence I disagree with the moral high ground that some choose to stand on declare they will not vote at all. Such a non-decision, decision is still an act of free will.

Free will and predestination–two topics filled with points and counter points. It is easy to get distracted by all the pretty colors shining from both sides. For me, I want to focus on what God wants me to do and I will leave the rest alone. If it’s for God to deal with, then I won’t fret over it.
Voting is an honor; a privilege. I am thankful that God placed me in a country at this specific time. If I don’t use my freedom, then what’s the point?

The idea that God lets us write the world’s story is a sobering one. Let’s use the penmanship of wisdom.
Perfectly said. I’ve been praying through two ways to approach this election and am still not clear on what I should do. I know I’ll know by the time the election comes. The one thing I have rested in through all of this is that He is the one who ultimately chooses because it all has to pass through Him first. Thanks for writing this.
Thanks for responding Joanna! We mustn’t be distracted from what we know. I’m trying real hard to follow Proverbs 4:25-27:
Let your eyes look straight ahead;
fix your gaze directly before you.
Give careful thought to the paths for your feet
and be steadfast in all your ways.
Do not turn to the right or the left;
keep your foot from evil.
But I still like to follow the news … go figure.
That’s a great one for this election and so many other things.
Well written with a power punch message. I’ll be in the voting booth with peace and praise since prayer backing me up. So often prayers have poured from my soul for America to return to “in God we trust.” Yes, He is in control with the outcome. We may not understand it, but we can count on Him working His long term plan for His people. Next week, I’ll vote with trust, expectations, and peace because of Almighty God will see us through.

Thanks, Carolyn. While our government has empowered us with the right to choose in this free country. I strive to remember that God has the final say. Just as Joshua experienced in Genesis 50:20 “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”
He can make good out of anything we do. I find great comfort in that. You’re so right, God will see us through.
