More Gratitude
Ever since the discovery of my brain tumor in 2011, I’ve learned to look at life’s situations with purposeful eyes–I need to find reasons to have gratitude. It’s become a great blessing. I remember even now the simple examples of gratitude that held my focus after I returned home after surgery:
The feel of fresh pajamas after a shower
Walking without assistance
Having the ability to feed myself
Hugs from relieved family members
Promises, like Hebrews 13:5
… be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ Hebrews 13:5
It’s doable
If you open your mind, you may find it’s doable. What helped me through one of the darkest seasons of my life was to take inventory of the blessings around me. I understand how difficult it is to be grateful in the midst of loss. But give it a try. You may be filled with anger, questions, and uncertainties.
You pray in your distress and in your need; would that you might pray also in the fullness of your joy and in your days of abundance. Khalil Gibran, “The Prophet”
Still, try
If you open your mind about this day, it is filled with abundance. Your challenge is to stand strong in what you are grateful for. See my list above? Nothing dramatic, but each item made my heart smile.
I implore you. Add to this list. Make a list of what you are grateful for during this week … for this Thanksgiving season.
What say you?
What do you wonder about? Are you happy … or are you doing what you never thought you’d do? Do you see consistencies … or are you all over the place? Drop me a line. I’d love to chat.
