Being Distracted While Writing

Distractions when writing is one of the greatest challenges for a new or struggling author. Pretty colors. Cleaning the oven. Organizing your closets. The strangest distractions can seem important when ideas aren’t flowing. Or perhaps the more visible success of fellow writers has you in a bit of a funk.
Snap out of it!

Regain your focus. Remember what your purpose is. Revisit the reason you decided to sit at the keyboard in the first place.
Take a break if you need it. Read this post if you’d like. But get back to work. You’ll be glad that you did.
And now I need to get back to work, too. <smile>

  1. This is so true! Thanks for sharing. A short and sweet post that reminds me to keep distractions short and sweet as well. : )

  2. Robin, I needed this one. Only now I’m feeling guilty about my dirty oven. It will have to wait. I have writing to do. Ha ha!
    Blessings!

Those ovens! A successful writer once told that writers should strive to do what only we can do. If someone else can clean the oven, let them do it. Writing is a gift from God. (but be prepared to have a dirty oven for awhile, too.)
      Hugs!

Yep, this is me right now, Robin. I needed some straight-talking. Thanks! 🙂

  5. Thanks for commenting, Joanna. Isn’t it nuts? Why do we put off using the gifts God has blessed us with? It’s a mystery. It’s almost October. Where did the time go? Time to buckle down and get focused.

So true. I started the year saying this would be the year and, while I’ve done a lot in getting the blog going, I haven’t taken the next steps. I agree. Buckling down!

This seems to be the subject that is coming to me over the past week. I think God is telling me something – to get serious with my writing as my job, not a hobby.
