Patience … Really?
We have all heard the saying, “Patience is a virtue” but I’ve been struggling to always get my head around that quote. What I have found is patience is one characteristic of many virtues in their purest form.
I’ve found patience noted in the Old Testament as a way to persuade others (Proverbs 25:15) or that patience is better than pride (Ecclesiastics 7:8). It’s also mentioned along with other wonderful attributes in the New Testament as a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) as well as Paul’s list of job aspirations noted in 2 Corinthians 6:3-10.
So Patience is a good thing. But what if it masquerades as something else? How about Denial? Maybe a friend needs confronted and that time of confrontation pasts without any action. Or what if the work piles up on the desk and doesn’t get touched. Is that patience or procrastination?
Check your motives. Just because the label “Patience” is used, doesn’t mean it accurate. Patience in its purest form is a beautiful thing. What do you think?
